This is a guide to gearing up a level 70 survival specced hunter. For more details about playing a survival hunter for raids, see my guide: Survival Hunter Raid Basics. The primary goal for a survival hunter should be to get at least 600 agil unbuffed before switching to a survival spec (which should amount to about 700 agil unbuffed once you switch to the spec) and basically maximize your agility and crit while maintaining 95 hit rating (the sweet spot for raiding if you have the surefooted talent). My hunter is Zeherah on Stormrage if you want to see what I'm wearing for whatever reason :)
Note that I don't necessarily recommend wearing all of the pieces on this list, it's just basically to shorten your time searching for new upgrades- different survival hunters have different priorities in regards to balancing agility with other stats such as crit and AP and certain stats such as haste will only fit with certain builds. I've included some items which don't have any agility in some weaker itemized slots for those who find stacking more crit to be preferable, but for raiding purposes as long as you can maintain decent personal dps I find agility to be preferable whenever possible due to the raid benefits it provides and the scaling you gain from raid buffs.
Also note that these items are not in any particular order of preference (although I have generally tried to group them in each category in order of difficulty to acquire). You will have to evaluate for yourself which item is the biggest upgrade for you of what you have available.
You may also want to use the Hunter DPS Spreadsheet to get a feel for how different gear choices will affect your personal damage output (I didn't make this spreadsheet I'm just linking to it).
Latest Updates (2008-06-30): S4 items added and PvP prices updated
Note: most socket bonuses are not worth going out of your way to get- usually you want to just stack as much agil as possible, but if the socket bonus is agil or crit, or if you need some blue or yellow gems to meet a meta requirement, I've included the best gems for those sockets. Keep in mind that for meta gem requirements, multicolor gems count towards both requirements, so for instance a green gem would count towards both a yellow and blue requirement.
